Members and friends enjoyed succulent prime rib cooked to perfection, baked haddock with a spinach and seafood stuffing, or chicken sautéed with Marsala wine and mushrooms in the decorated downstairs dining room.

Ken Blair KB1GPQ delighted us with “Certificates of Appreciation” for all those who behind the scenes make CVARC go. Joe McKeon N1PTR regaled us with a few good stories from his recent trip to Austria. A highlight of the evening was a “Yankee swap” with the caveat that no one knew in advance what was in the bags. The swap generated about $175 for the Rocket Launcher Antenna Fund and launched loads of fun for the attendees. Virgil Hall AA1RW and Matt Lindhiem KB1GYC went home with a very nice set of earphones while Mike Stridsberg N1IOD was able to finesse the digital multimeter after any number of exchanges.

Allen Tinker W1AAT went home with a Bob McCorkle WB1AJG-fabricated HT battery charger which has been transformed into a 12-volt illuminated base for the only piece of Steuben glass that he owns: a small crystal rabbit given to him by Ciba-Giegy for his service on their Animal Care Committee in the 1960s. Many other mementos from Bob’s shack and workbench now grace the operating positions and workstations of our members. Someone suggests that in lieu of a raffle at some future CVARC meeting that members and friends might be delighted to lay out $5 for a bag of McCorkle goodies, helping thereby to reduce the mass of stuff in the CVARC cubby at MeadowCrest. Watch your QFQ Report to see if this idea catches on.

Neal Rentz N1ZRA brought a tin of goodies to the party and the high bidder enjoying the contents was Wayne Whitelock W1WRW. Chris Armstrong KB1NVZ and Bill Lindie K1HTJ now have a small but heavy-duty vise for their workbench, which they just managed to hang on to in the exchanges going on during the evening. All had a good time.
