Williamstown Repeater Status

As we all know by now the Williamstown repeater site is off line. This is scheduled be returned to operation by Saturday the 19th with a walk in to the site for the second time. I hope that Hams have found this site to be a value to the communications in our surrounding area. The repeater has suffered from no technical difficulties that would require repair or further down time.

Williamstown Repeater Status

Things are looking good for this Saturday, 19 January, 2008. Not definite, but likely….

WordPress software upgrade

I upgraded CVARC’s w1bd.org site from WordPress version 2.3.1 to version 2.3.2, so the site might have looked a little strange for a few minutes this evening. The new version is apparently much more secure, so we amateur radioists in central Vermont will be able to rest easy….

Williamstown repeater status

On Tuesday afternoon, 8 January, 2008, CVARC’s W1BD Williamstown repeater on 146.625 MHz went off-line. Thanks to the gracious good will of Allen Wilde N1IOE, the CVARC nets usually heard on W1BD in Williamstown are being held on Allen’s repeater in Barre. Many, many thanks to Allen:

  • Frequency: 147.390 MHz
  • Offset +600 Hz
  • P/L tone: 100 Hz

Also, though we should try not to “ragchew” on N1IOE’s repeater, we should remember it for emergency and priority use at this time, since the Williamstown, Mt. Ellen, Jay Peak, and Bolton repeaters are all either “down” or working poorly.

Again, thank you, Allen!

Ham radio breakfast on Saturday!

The annual Vermont Ham breakfast will be this Saturday, January 19th, at 9:00 AM until noon at the Lincoln Inn at the 5 Corners in Essex Junction.

The purpose of the gathering is for Vermont hams to great, meet, and eat. We had such a gathering last year and over 40 hams came out from all over the area.

The first part of the agenda is eating, something that we likely are all experts in. Breakfast and lunch are available off the menu. Sometime after 10:00, we start our discussion topic, “Ways to build on-air activity.” A number of hams have commented that local activity is down and hams, new and old are frustrated in setting up stations and making contacts. This will be a perfect opportunity to share ideas on this topic which is core to amateur radio.

If there is any other pressing topic you would like to discuss or present, there is some time for that too. But please let me know that ahead of time. We hope to be finished up by noon.

So remember, the breakfast is this Saturday. Come any time between 9:00 and noon. Please let all your ham radio friends know about the breakfast, both on the air, and via e-mail and Internet. Although it is a bit of trip, we hope to see a good number of hams from out of the area as well. Local talk in for the event will be on RANV’s Bolton 145.15 MHz repeater (600 KHz negative offset, 100 Hz P/L tone).

Happy news

Simon Anderson KB1PLI and Doreen Bessette KB1PLK have announced that they and young Owen are expecting another little “ham” to join their family. Hooray!

Sad news

We all at CVARC wish to extend our sympathy and support to Joe McKeon N1PTR, whose daughter Barbara passed away on Thursday at the Worcester Medical Center in Worcester, Mass.

Family and friends may call at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre, on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, from 7 to 9 p.m.
